Cottage Garden Approach

Project summary

The client wanted to transform the generous but tired spaces around the driveway, to reclaim the area as a garden and welcome arrivals at the property.

It was important that the new design offered a standalone feature garden, whilst remaining sympathetic to the extended garden and wider landscape.

We created three different concept plans before creating the final design for the client. We implemented this project from start to finish, from plant ordering to landscaping and planting.

  • A second planting area was created to complement the existing one by the house and create a cohesive garden to hug the approach to the property.

Key points

  • A low hedge of Yew (Taxus baccata) was added to the new bed, enclosing the space and encouraging exploration around it, whilst creating a backdrop for planting. The rolling top mirrors the fells in the background.

  • The range of cottage garden-style plants, bursts of bulbs and interspersed evergreens were carefully selected to maximise flowering season and pollinator value.
