Small Family Garden

Project summary

The client in this case wanted a tasteful space where her children could play and included a range of attractive planting.

Practicality and safety were important, as was a design that suited her limited time for maintenance.

We created hard-landscaping, planting, lighting and drainage plans to meet this brief and create a space the whole family could enjoy.

Key points

  • We created a design of interlocking circles to soften the feel of the irregular plot. Sandstone was used for the paths with reclaimed bricks and a false mirror arch to add a sense of timelessness and space.

  • Tasteful practicality is central to the design, which incorporates a discreet shed, sandpit and space for drying clothes. The a hard-wearing lawn, improved drainage and patio space prevents mud being brought inside.

  • Raised beds were created to protect planting from errant footballs and improve drainage. Plants were selected to be long-flowering and pollinator friendly, complementing the bug hotel and child-proof water feature.
